Best Dog Towels for 2022

Whether they have just been for a long muddy and wet walk, or you have just bathed them, all dog owners will probably agree that washing and drying their pup is one of the worst parts of being a dog owner.

If you dry them with a regular towel, this gets very wet yet still doesn’t do the full job, and then both the towel and the pet give off a bit of a wet dog whiff. But if you don’t dry them at all, you have a very messy (and smelly) car, home or dog bed on your hands.

There is a solution, however – if you dry them with a dedicated microfibre pet towel, not only is the job quicker, but they will actually be fully dry at the end, and won’t smell damp. It is certainly a product which changed our lives here at Petz HQ after very muddy, wet walks with very wild, still-not-tired pooches…

Once your dog’s fur is dry, you can rub the towel in the direction of the coat and it will produce a sheen.

    4.
    Towelling Dog Bag

You dry Henry as much as you can before he inevitably has to get back into the car or come through the living room after a long muddy walk. It is at this point that you realise you didn’t quite fully clean his paws.

He then goes into the nice clean living room, has a shake before jumping up on the sofa. Just to make some more mess. But if you can carry your dog, wouldn’t zipping them up into a bag to contain all of that dirt be a better idea?

It isn’t as malicious as it sounds. Made from 100% cotton, the towel bag doesn’t only keep all of your dog’s mud and dirt contained, but also helps with faster drying without you having to lift a finger. It would also help after bath time if they tend to run through the house soaking everything.

From tiny terriers to labradors, the size choices are generous. It is also able to keep them warm, which could really benefit them in the winter, especially if they are wet. A choice of colours is available if you’re fussy about that kind of thing, and just bear in mind that it can get quite heavy after it soaks up the water.

    Buying Guide

    Materials

The majority of dog towels are made from some form of microfibre material such as a cotton mix or polyester. This soaks up water easier and also is quicker at drying so you don’t get that wet dog smell which often comes from damp towels.

    What Else To Look For

The towel should be lightweight, which helps it to dry and air out easier but also makes it easier to pack if you are going on a trip. They’re also better for drying your dog with, as you can move the towel around with ease and your dog won’t become stressed with a heavy item swaddling them.

Hand pockets could also come in handy if you have a bit of a Houdini dog who you need to hold and dry at the same time, and they also allow you to get under their belly, around their face and their legs easier.

    Machine Washable Dog Towels

The vast majority can be washed in your machine. This is vital to keep the towel clean and bacteria-free and is also easier than washing by hand. Double-check that the towel isn’t too sensitive for this though, and also check whether you can use detergents and softeners.

    Other Buyers Ask...

How Do I Use A Dog Towel?

Gently rub your dog’s fur with the towel to remove dirt and water. Try to apply as much force as possible to get close to the skin and right into their fur.

Once clean and dry, run the towel in the direction of the fur to produce a sheen. Take care to clean the legs and paws thoroughly to remove all dirt carrying potentially harmful bacteria, and to remove other potential hazards such as salt from the road.

How Do I Care For A Dog Towel?

You don’t want to buy something which is difficult to look after, so double-check washability and care tips before you purchase.

In general, shake after use to remove any loose hairs, wring it out if it has got very wet, wash it often when needed to keep it clean and ready for the next adventure, and always air dry it thoroughly before using again. Some may be able to be dried in a tumble dryer, which is good if you are always out and about.
